Safe and sound here in Captain Jim’s Cove, I am grateful that I survived the international coronavirus pandemic which began in the U.S.in the spring of 2020.

And, so far, I have survived the victory of Donald Trump in the November 2024 U..S. elections. I have published two books on political developments in the U.S. between 2016 and 2024. That is how I processed the madness that seemed to be swirling about me and throughout the country.

The books are:

  1. The Rape of American Democracy: Republican Actions and Democratic Failures, 2016-2021 (IngramSpark, 2024).

  1. Don’t Be Stupid. Pay Attention, Damn It! Advice for Undecided Voters and Voters Leaning Toward Trump (IngramSpark, 2024).

On the international front, Russia launched a massive invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022. My reaction was to publish almost daily columns on the Ukraine war on my blog, The Trenchant Observer: International Law, Politics, and Security (trenchantobserver.com), Unfortunately the blog has been hacked and is not working, though most of the content can be found on The  Wayback Machine and in my books.

In May 2022, adding to these efforts, I launched a Substack newsletter, Trenchant Observations (jamesrowles.substack.com), which focuses on strategic aspects of U.S. and allied decision-making in the Ukraine war, as well as on the growth of the fascist movement in the U.S. which led to the reelection of Donald Trump in 2024.

I have published some 300 columns or articles in the newsletter to date. I plan to use a number of them in future books. These will include in particular a book on decision-making in the U.S. and allied countries related to the Ukraine war.

My current plans are to keep on writing articles and publishing books, while seeking to expand my range of subject matter beyond the Ukraine war and Donald Trump. I plan to spend more time working on my autobiography (well underway) and the manuscript for a children’s book ((also well advanced).

The world has once again become an angry ocean of stormy seas. Hopefully I will be safe in Captain Jim’s Cove, while publishing navigational aids to help us all come through these stormy seas intact in heart, mind, and soul.

Captain Jim
